M.D. Ayu. (Masters Degree in Rasa Shastra & Bhaishajya Kalpana)

Rasashastra: This special branch of Ayurveda deals with various metals, minerals and herbo-mineral formulations.

Bhaishajya Kalpana: This deals with the principals and methods related with the preparation of various medicinal formulations. This can be reffered to as the art and science of preparation of medicine.

Intention of selection of these specialties: Sheer expositors of Ayurveda explained physician, medicine, attendant and patient as the four pillars of successful treatment. Medicines form the most important pillar of successful treatment. Only standardised medicine can bring cure to the ailments of patients. By considering the need for research in different levels of production of medicines this particular branch has been selected.

Ayurveda cannot remain confined to the use of conventional, conservative norms of medication. It has to accept the new challenges and be prepared to answer the queries of modern man who would have a right to know how the drugs administered to him are collected, processed, preserved and used. To meet this new thrust of inquisitiveness, standardization of drugs in Indian Systems of medicine is mandatory.

By considering all these, the above subjects were chosen for post-graduation study. Here, studies are aimed at various aspects of preparations, including their method of preparation, process standardization, analytical study, experimental and toxicological studies & clinical studies in various conditions.

This section is recognised by Gujarat Ayurved University, Jamnagar, the only exclusive ayurvedic university in the world.

Scope and Future for the scholars of this speciality: Scholars have bright prospects in academics, research and also in the clinical fields. They can also be selected in various prestigious institutions & multi-national pharmaceutical industries immediately after the completion of their studies.
